Ghost of Valentown Museum[/color]
October 26th, 2011
In the early days of the railroad, many fortunes were made and lost building around where the tracks were speculated to come through a town. Valentown, a shopping center turned museum in Victor, New York unfortunately was one of those losing propositions. It did become a center point within the community though and provided us with a possible ghost of Valentown Museum video.
Valentown Hall is a three-story building built-in 1879 by Levi Valentine and was supposed to be the center of a new town based on the fact that the railroad was coming through and he hoped he would be a stop on it. Unfortunately the railroad went bankrupt before it ever got to Mr. Valentine and his town was quickly abandoned.
The hall however did become the area’s social center in the late 1800’s with horse stables in the basement and the first floor consisting of a general store, harness-maker’s stall, cobbler’s shop, meat market, bakery, and community room. The second floor consisted of the Grange Hall and where they taught cooking, housekeeping and other domestic skills with the other rooms providing theater, music, art, and business classes. Then the third floor provided a Grand Ballroom with an 18 foot ceiling.
