www.astrobio.net/exclusive/4301/an-alien-code-close-to-home-seeking-et-beyond-the-radio-silence ASTROBIOLOGY MAGAZINEAn Alien Code Close to Home: Seeking ET Beyond the Radio Silence Alien Life Posted: 10/27/11 Author: Jeremy Hsu Summary: The search for intelligent alien life goes beyond SETI's search for intergalactic radio signals. Some scientists are looking for evidence of technological footprints and biological clues embedded in the DNA of life on Earth.Any intelligent extraterrestrial life that exists probably won't announce itself by blowing up the White House, or win over the hearts of children as a lovable alien with a glowing finger. Many scientists simply hope to find evidence of them by scanning the skies for a radio signal from a distant star's alien civilization. But such efforts may also risk overlooking clues of past alien activity right here on Earth. If aliens did leave their mark on Earth by some wild chance, we could search for the possible "footprints" of alien technology or even analyze the DNA of terrestrial organisms for signs of intelligent messages or tinkering. Such a CSI-style forensics search could complement, rather than replace, the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) astronomers who continue to look skyward, said Paul Davies, a physicist and cosmologist at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. "My proposals aim to spread the burden from a small band of heroic radio astronomers to the entire scientific community," Davies said. "Projects like genomic SETI are an attempt to complement radio SETI, not undermine it." Davies wants scientists to broaden their thinking about how aliens could have left behind their mark. Having worked with SETI for three decades, he has written about his ideas in a book, "The Eerie Silence" (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2010) and articles such as one that appeared in the online August edition of the journal Acta Astronautica. But Davies does not think such intelligent alien life must necessarily exist. And his many years of supporting SETI have not stopped him from describing the needle-in-a-haystack search as "a search without any clue as to whether there is a needle there at all, or how large the haystack may be." Open Minds TVSearching Earth for signs of historical extraterrestrial presenceJason McClellan Oct 27, 2011 SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) astronomers have been scanning the skies for extraterrestrial signals for more than fifty years. But one scientist suggests launching a new approach that could complement SETI’s efforts in the search for extraterrestrial life. Astrobiologist, physicist, and cosmologist Paul Davies has cooperated with SETI for thirty years, but believes scientists might have better luck finding evidence of extraterrestrial life here on Earth. According to Astrobiology Magazine, “Davies wants scientists to broaden their thinking about how aliens could have left behind their mark.” He suggests that scientists should search our own planet for possible “footprints” left behind by ancient extraterrestrial visitors, “or even analyze the DNA of terrestrial organisms for signs of intelligent messages or tinkering.” He explains that it is possible that intelligent extraterrestrials visited Earth long ago, and therefore there could be evidence of their visit, but “probability and the length of the universe’s age suggest that any such alien visit would have taken place before humans ever emerged on Earth.” The evidence could be on our very own planet. We just have to find it. That is, if any traces of extraterrestrial visitation have survived for “hundreds of millions or billions of years for humans to still find them today.” Davies feels that the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life here on Earth would complement SETI’s skyward efforts, even though he acknowledges that using radio telescopes to listen for alien signals is like searching for a needle in a haystack. www.openminds.tv/searching-earth-for-signs-of-historical-extraterrestrial-presence-819/

Whilst some might find this to be a path breaking thought. I do not agree with this in terms of how effective or efficient a method this is. For one the first problem would be with defining what exactly can be identified as 'Extraterrestrial'. This concept might not be that new. Ancient Astronaut theory roughly posits the same thing. They might not leave a footprint in DNA, but they can leave other evidence as postulated by Zachariah Sitchin. And there are enough arguments about it. It will be the same thing even now. My bet is that most intelligensia around the world will take 5 - 10 years just to define what makes something a candidate for extraterrestrial contamination or with more positive words - 'Extraterrestrial Confluence'. According to Astrobiology Magazine, “Davies wants scientists to broaden their thinking about how aliens could have left behind their mark.” - Take the Egyptian pyramids, the Sumerian culture all the ancient, that 'Landing Strips' in Peru, Indian Vimanas. There is enough evidence if you want to look at it that way - but it is never conclusive proof. It at best support speculation and tilts argument to one side. The evidence could be on our very own planet. We just have to find it. That is, if any traces of extraterrestrial visitation have survived for “hundreds of millions or billions of years for humans to still find them today.” - I doubt it very much. Over the past 5000 years, a few pyramids are the only ones that have stood the test of time. Any material evidence otherwise may have been vastly distorted. Including things like DNA patterns. We don't know what happened to the Peking Man and other missing links. There is a theory that humans have been engineered by some superior beings. Apparently we have one chromosome less than an ape or something. The body mass/size to physical strength ratio sets up apart from all other animal life on Earth. We are the weakest, slowest, most vulnerable of all. We can just boast of brain power. But because we have brain power - does not mean we have to be weak physically. Most other animals have more hair on their body. If we developed from apes and chimps, what happened to all the hair. Though apes and chimps are herbivores why do they have very sharp canine teeth? What happened to the all the physical strength of man as he evolved from an ape? Why is he not as fast (not necessarily the modern man.. but even man of 100000 years ago).....though living in the same atmospheric conditions as that of an ape, how come man lost all the hair/fur on the body which would otherwise protect him from extreme weathers? Why doesn't Darwin's theory apply to man (ironical - man came up with it.. hehehe). What need propelled him to evolve so much - mentally? As we keep talking, we tend towards - "yeah.. may be we were engineered" or "atleast we were seeded from elsewhere".. So if we want to call this evidence. It is evidence enough. Like I said before it is not conclusive. Because, we can't go back in time and see what happened. The best we can do is speculate. Therefore I think it is best to stick to looking out in space. Atleast that will answer questions like - "who are they", "where are they from".... Mere admission to presence of extraterrestrial life is as good as not finding them - except it would douse some curiosity. What matters with "Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence" is to find out more than just "they exist - end of story". phew........... after a loooooooong time Regards, Srinivas

Even if scientists did find traces of ancient extraterrestrial there is no guarantee they would recognize it for what it is. We can't even recognize modern UFOs for what they are. Are they interdeminsional craft or from other planets or some weird psychological phenomenon...? Nobody has a clue.
they also would have to take into consideration the fact that anything old is more than likely at the bottom of the ocean or buried under tons of dirt or thousands of feet of ice. Things are constantly getting covered up by dust, dirt and mud and sinking into oblivion. There are entire civilizations that are only a few thousand years old that we know virtually nothing about because they are entirely buried and hidden from our view. When it comes to unearthing ancient history we have barely even scratched the surface. There could be entire fleets of UFOs and ancient alien bases right underneath our feet and nobody would know they were there until somebody accidentally tripped over one of them. And if they did would they even recognize it for what it is?

www.unexplainable.net/UFO-Alien/Military-Unexpectedly-Funds-SETI-Search.shtml Military Unexpectedly Funds SETI SearchBy Chris Capps 12/7/11 The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, or SETI as it is more commonly known is not used to suddenly getting unexpected attention from the military - at least not as far as we know. But recently the Air Force began expanding its surveillance program not only on Earth, but in space as well - and it seems particularly interested in the Allen Telescope Array, once a key component in the search for extraterrestrial signals from space. So why the sudden interest by the military? The Air Force, which has taken an increased interest in space ever since the collision of a US and Russian satellite. The use of SETI's resources will hopefully avoid any future collisions, and track the debris clouds to ensure they do not impact any other satellites at a time when satellite traffic is increasing quite a bit due to increased demand. And the announcement will also benefit SETI, who will now be able to reignite its search in the direction of Kepler-22b, a mysterious Earthlike planet recently discovered that looks to be one of the more promising sources of extraterrestrial life. If Kepler does somehow detect activity emanating from the mysterious world in the form of radio signals, it could usher in a whole new age for mankind. Unfortunately, it may also put a screen of secrecy up if the Air Force decides it is in the interest of National Security to hide their findings. Space exploration has undertaken a very long and very different sort of journey in space exploration in the last year. With the killing of the space shuttle program, NASA is consolidating its resources in other fields and benefiting immensely in ways previously never thought possible. And yet at the same time, the possibility that the United States will only make it into space either piggybacking from other countries or with the help of private industry has been a point of sorrow for many space enthusiasts who consider the ultimate mission for the west is to eventually spread to other planets. I don't know if that's good news or bad. Every time the government gets involved with something they usually want to take control of it and keep all the info secret. This could be just another attempt by the Feds to silence anything extraterrestrial related. If they did find a signal from Et we would probably never hear about it.

With the discovery of the 'Christmas planet' - the USAF is quickly already horning in now on SETI should they actually find something. Pre-positioned should they need to insulate the public once again. Such money doesn't just come from out of no where. Someone invisible with power is going to take control. The military reflexive action is obvious & very telling. Someone sees a possible potential event coming. Steve

Hmm...I hadn't thought of that. Before SETI was just randomly choosing locations in the sky without having a clue what they were pointing at, but now that they actually have a target similar to the Earth Uncle Sam's Big Brother wants to step in to make sure we don't accidentally find something. That figures.
