Developed from the classic boardgame, in Battleship a fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals.
Peter explained: “The movie starts with the location of what’s called a ‘Goldilocks planet’.
Peter Berg: Battleship is based on real-life possibility of alien invasion
“It is a real phenomenon which refers to a planet with a solar system. It has a sun about as bright as our sun, and that planet has a similar orbit to its sun as we have to ours, so we believe that the climate should be right to support life, or some form of life.”
He added: “In the beginning of Battleship we send the signal out, five years later we get a response, they come in contact with five of our ships and it doesn’t go well.”
So what about casting lead actor Taylor Kitsch? Peter said: “Taylor’s someone I know from Friday Night Lights, which is a TV show I did in America.
“I loved Taylor, it’s kind of like my little brother, and I think he possesses just the right guys for [his character] Hopper.
“He’s a guy who’s going to get it done, and he’ll be a hero, but he’s going to have a bit of trouble getting there.”
