These 5 plantations are considered "haunted' and have been for sometime. I do some "investigating", more like visiting locations, that are or claim to be 'haunted' or have some "paranormal activity' going on, in or around them. I am not "professionally "trained" but seem to have "something" thhat gives me some 'insight" as to what is or isn't paranormal in nature and reach some conclussion what it might be goinng on.After doing it since I was abouut 10, I've gotten pretty good at it, if I do say so.The mansions listed, I have my noted from each visit, people spoken with, what was/wasn't observed, etc. No, I'm not trying to compete with "ghost hunters" shows on tv, I simply do it because many places appeal to me and/or what is one place that
has an interest.
BERRY HILL MANSION: Supposedly this structure is so haunted, no one want to live in it. Unexplained footstepts and the "presence of some terrifying, invisible, entity" have kept anyone from staying out the night. Legend has it that the "ghost" is that of the son of the original owner, who resents the estate being taken out of the hands of the family.
EDGEWOOD PLANTATION:The ghost of Lizzie rowland still waits for for her "lost love' to return from the Civil Waar. If one is lucky, as i have been, onne can see her apparition peering out an upstairs window. the house was built in 1849 by Lizzie's fther, Spencer Rowe. It now serves as a bed and breakfast.
GREENWOOD PLANTATION; This 17th Centruy pollantation is haunted by the ghosts of Governor john tayloor Sr., and his wife. they have een seen on the second floor of the house in a new bedroom now christened the "Haunted Chamber'.
BERKLEY PLANTATION and its cemetery: This graveyard is the final resting place of members of the original Berkley colony and the families of pllantation owners over the centuries. the ghost of a redheaded drummer boy , ages, oh, let's eay around 12 yo, is seen on the hilltop there. Supposedly, he beats his drum slowly and looks down on the James River. I have never seen or sensed him but I have heard what sounded like "drum beat' but I would not swear to it.
SHERWOOD FOREST: The "Gray lady" haunts this estate, which has been in the John Tyler family for over 200 yrs. However, the "gray lady" was there before the 10th president took office. She is thought by many to be a governess who lived in the house in the late 1700s. her ghostly presence can detected rocking in a wooden rocker in the second floor nursery, in the Gray Room, and on the servants stairway.
