At the Atlantiic Coast Railroad Crossing, at maco,North Carolina, hundreds of witnesses have seen the fabled "Maco Light"., and their tales are always the same. A distant light starts moving back and forth in the darkness, like an old time railroad lantern. Occasionally the sounds of train brakes and metal hitting metal are heard. The phenomena is usually heard near the spot where in 1867, a real, stalled, train was hit from behind by a speeding express train. Some believe the light is from conductor Joe Baldwin's lantern, trying to stop the express train. He was decapitated in the accident, the only casualty. Sometimes the light may not appear for a month, more or less, but it always returns. "Old Joe" is buried in a Catholic cemetery near the site of his demise and,at times, a light can be seen moving about the cemetery, as in search for something, perhaps a head?

I never heard of the Maco light. It sounds cool tho. There are lots of stories from all over the place about weird lights that show up close to train tracks. I guess it's cuz a lot of people get killed by the trains. I wanna go check this one out some day.

Yup, you've practically been a ghost around here yourself, DandG. Nice to see you again though.
