blogs.westword.com/showandtell/2013/09/x-files.phpThe X-Files turns twenty -- is it time to reboot?By Cory Casciato Westword Show and Tell Thu., Sep. 12 2013 The X-Files turned twenty this week. Despite its somewhat advanced age, the groundbreaking series has never felt more relevant. The show's paranoid vision of government conspiracies seems positively prescient in light of revelations about NSA spying in defiance of U.S. law and custom. Its embrace of science fiction and the supernatural were unusual for its time -- today they'd seem downright mainstream. And where The X-Files, with its complex alien-conspiracy mythos, was among the most serialized shows on television at the time, these days an even higher degree of serialization has become the norm, at least among the heavyweight dramas. Given all that, maybe it's time to reboot The X-Files That might sound crazy -- or perhaps blasphemous, depending on your degree of devotion to the original series -- but there's no reason it couldn't work. When Star Trek: The Next Generation was first unveiled, a strong segment of fans of the original were staunchly opposed, certain that no new-school version of their beloved show could work, especially one with an all-new crew. We all know how that worked out -- TNG is widely considered the superior Trek, and its success only helped the original series cement its place in history. Why couldn't The X-Files pull off the same trick? Is there an audience for science fiction and horror television? Unquestionably. Does the original show have a dedicated cult following to form the seed of its new fandom? It does. Is show creator Chris Carter doing anything else at the moment? He is not. Were there unanswered questions, unresolved plotlines and new directions left to explore when the original series ended? You're *goshdarn* right there were. See? The pieces are all in place. By the time the original X-Files ended, the show's tangled mythology was, admittedly, something of a mess. That's not a problem, though -- it's an opportunity. The show was always filled with red herrings, false flags and weird detours. The reboot would be a perfect opportunity to sit down, plot out just exactly what the *bleep* was actually supposed to be going on the whole time, and retcon the original mythology with some smart stories that clear up the ambiguity and outright contradictions of the original. The mere fact that the date for full alien colonization put forth in the original has since passed is a major opportunity to make a clean break from the Old Testament X-Files and set a new path for version 2.0. What would this look like? How the hell would I know? I am, however, eager to find out. Like Star Trek: The Next Generation, the way forward is to make a break from the past without forgetting it. That would mean new characters portrayed by new actors -- David Duchovny can stick with Californication as his day job, and Gillian Anderson can keep doing whatever she is up to these days. That said, one or both of them would make excellent guest stars reprising their roles, playing the kind of mysterious benefactor role that Deep Throat and X played to their characters in the original series. Let's suppose this theoretical X-Files reboot starts with an up-and-coming FBI superstar stepping on the wrong toes and being shuffled into the ultimate dead-end assignment by his vindictive superiors -- re-opening the X-Files. Partnered with a True Believer who's every bit as credulous as he is skeptical, and eager to get his career back on track as quickly as possible, he resolves to debunk the *bullcrap* X-Files and move on. Only things don't work out quite as planned when he starts to discover that, despite his skepticism, there may actually be some weird *bleep* going on out there... For a while, it felt like Fringe was trying to do this exact thing, at least unofficially, but that turned out not to be the case. For better or for worse (probably better), that show went its own direction and found its own audience. But I can't be the only person who watched the first season of Fringe hoping it would develop into something of a spiritual successor to The X-Files, can I? I can't be the only one thinking that The X-Files' smart, scary distillation of urban myths, from shadowy conspiracy theory to alien abduction, into a grand, unified vision of modern horror would work even better today than when it aired. I just can't be. So, c'mon, Chris Carter, how about a new X-Files? I want to believe (again). blogs.westword.com/showandtell/2013/09/x-files.php

ufodigest.com/article/x-files-0925 THE X-FILES' DAVID DUCHOVNY AND GILLIAN ANDERSON WILL BE IN NEW YORK NEXT MONTHBy Dirk Vander Ploeg Publisher's Note: If I had the time and the money I would be in New York City on Saturday, October 12, 2013. Why because the starring actors of my all-time favorite television show will be appearing at the Paley Center to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the premiere of their seires The X-Files. Yes indeed, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are getting back together for a talk about the show. Dirk David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are coming to the Paley Center to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the premiere of The X-Files, the iconic sci-fi series that largely defined the paranoid thriller for the nineties, and whose influence can still be felt in supernatural dramas airing today. Though running on Fox from 1993 to 2002, The X-Files was clearly rooted in the seventies—the age of Watergate, which creator Chris Carter has cited as a defining moment in the awakening of his own moral conscience, the same decade that produced such venerated works of paranoid fiction as The Parallax View, Running Dogs, and the television series Kolchak: The Night Stalker, which Carter often credits as an influence. The X-Files tapped into a new age of anxiety: at a time when radio talk-show hosts were spotting conspiracies behind almost every action emanating from the Clinton White House, the series immersed us in a mesmeric universe haunted by uncertainty, fear, and distrust, and presented two of television’s most complex and enduring characters—FBI agents Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson)—to navigate us through it. ufodigest.com/article/x-files-0925

Nope, I just checked. It still hasn't been confirmed yet. They are just talking about it. Both of the main actors are busy with their own current television series and they don't know if they would be able to do the X-files yet. They are at least thinking about it though.

LOL i was always upset they did away with the lone gunmen... to me they were the best characters to come out of the series... and... i think their spin-off show failed because the writers didn't have them investigating the paranormal... probably the long arm of government influencing television... i often wondered if that show was set-up to fail... Hmmmmmmmm ...

And I agree, they were good characters that deserved better. Then again, I also enjoyed Millennium, and that sorda failed.

I liked the X-files also. I wasn't really interested in the aliens and ufos and stuff but the ghosts and monster stories were good. My favorite was the one where they were trapped in the haunted house with the two ghosts at Christmas time. I don't know what the name of it was but it was pretty cool.

sciencefiction.com/2015/01/19/truth-fox-bringing-back-x-files/February 19, 2014 i watched DAVID DUCHOVNY on a talk show the other night and he said negotiations were looking very good... Is The Truth Out There In FOX Is Bringing Back ‘The X-Files’?Posted about a month ago by Stuart Conover Long time fans of Agents Mulder and Scully might be very happy to hear that FOX is in talks to bring ‘The X-Files‘ back to the small screen. For the longest time we thought there would be a minuscule chance of bringing Chris Carter’s series back in the form of a third film but no word on it returning to prime time. Until now. It looks like it might be a good thing that Carter’s latest project ‘The After‘ won’t show up on Amazon after all. At the recent FOX TCA presentation, TV Group chairman Gary Newman announced that they’re currently in talks to bring ‘The X-Files’ back onto the network! Not only that, but if it is to happen they would like to see David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles as Agents Mulder and Scully respectively. An actual agreement with Carter on the series and the two actors have not yet been confirmed, though it is quite clear that both Duchovny and Anderson have been largely open to returning to the series in the past with Duchovny having once said “You could wheel me out. I’ll be Fox Mulder forever.” Carter has previously revealed what he would like to see if a third movie was released stating, “the colonization date has passed and that is something we wouldn’t ignore. For the second movie, we only had the budget for a standalone story, but we want to go back to the mythology.” If you recall where Mulder was at the beginning and end of the second film, and with the alien invasion having been set for December 22nd, 2012, it could be quite interesting to see how he would end up being brought back into the agency to find out why the invasion never happened.

comicbook.com/2015/03/21/the-x-files-revival-closer-than-ever/?utm_content=buffere3d75&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=bufferThe X-Files Revival Closer Than Ever By Jay Jayson 03/21/2015 The X-Files revival is inching ever so closer to an official green light from Fox, according to sources for TV Wise. In January, Fox revealed that they have had conversations about bringing back The X-Files. Not much was known at that time, but Fox did say they were planning on bringing back creator Chris Carter and the show's stars David Duchovny and Gillain Anderson. Since then, Duchovny and Anderson have both expressed interest in reprising their roles as Agents Mulder and Scully. TV Wise is reporting that Fox is planning to order a shortened season of The X-Files - less than 10 episodes. Which is similar to what the network did with Keifer Sutherland's 24, however, it had 12 episodes. The Daily Mail claims that it will be six episodes, but TV Wise says the number still hasn't be determined at this time. TV Wise claims that the revival will clear up unresolved plot lines that the original series and the two films that followed never did. They add, Chris Carter will write the scripts and serve as the executive producer. The reason for the short order? One of the main reasons is said to be scheduling. The feeling was that it would be easier for the always in demand Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny to schedule a block of time to shoot the revival with a short order. The duo, who were always committed to doing more X-Files, have, sources say, agreed to reprise their roles. It is understood than an offer has also gone out to Mitch Pileggi. Other key cast members will also return. The X-Files ran on Fox from 1993-2002 and earned 21 Emmy nominations. comicbook.com/2015/03/21/the-x-files-revival-closer-than-ever/?utm_content=buffere3d75&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

"The X-Files," which premiered on Fox in 1993, followed FBI special agents Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) as they investigated cases of the unexplained, UFOs and often paranormal phenomenon. Scully was the logical, practical partner of Mulder, who believed that alien worlds could exist within the universe and constantly searched for the truth in government cover-ups and conspiracy theories. The show created by Chris Carter became the longest-running sci-fi series in U.S. network TV history with nine seasons, concluding in 2002. The new series will comprise six episodes, due to start production this summer. An air date has not yet been announced. "I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," Carter said in a statement. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories." "The X-Files" revival comes on the heels of Fox's recent programming hits with Batman prequel "Gotham" and hip hop drama "Empire." www.ctvnews.ca/entertainment/x-files-revival-to-shoot-in-b-c-smoking-man-says-1.2300134 'SMOKING MAN' IS COMING BACK TO X-FILES'X-Files' revival to shoot in B.C., 'Smoking Man' saysJosh Elliott, CTVNews.ca @joshelliott14 Friday, March 27, 2015 If the truth is out there, it may be hidden somewhere in British Columbia. The landmark sci-fi conspiracy series ‘The X-Files’ will be returning to television for a six-episode run next year, with the series set to film in Vancouver this summer. Actor William B. Davis, who played the mysterious ‘Smoking Man’ in the long-running series, divulged the not-so-secret shooting destination to CTV Vancouver on Thursday. Related Stories 'The X-Files' returning for six-episode run Actor William B. Davis, who portrayed The Smoking Man in the 'The X-Files,' speaks to CTV Vancouver Thursday, March 26, 2015. Let’s just say he has a highly-placed source telling him it’ll all go down in B.C. “That’s my understanding, and I have my understanding from the horse’s mouth,” Davis told CTV Vancouver. That source, he says, is showrunner Chris Carter. “It will actually shoot here in Vancouver, and soon,” Davis said. The Canadian actor, 77, is set to reprise his role in the series when it starts shooting in June. Fox announced last week that it would be reviving the popular television series for a limited six-episode run. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are expected to reprise their starring roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, two FBI agents who investigate conspiracy theories, paranormal events and alien activity in the United States. ‘The X-Files’ made its television debut in 1993, and ran for nine seasons before it wrapped up in 2002. The series also spawned two feature films starring the show’s central cast: ‘The X-Files’ in 1998 and ‘The X-Files: I Want to Believe’ in 2008. The first five television seasons and the second feature film were all shot in Vancouver. Ken Priebe of the VanArts Institute credits ‘The X-Files’ with helping to jump-start Vancouver’s film production industry in the mid-1990s. He says many of those who launched their careers with ‘The X-Files’ will be getting back together to work on its TV return this summer. “It’s like a reunion, it’s like a party for the industry here,” Priebe said. B.C. remains a hot destination for television productions to set up shop. Hit U.S. network shows like ‘Arrow,’ ‘The Flash’ and ‘Once Upon a Time’ are all filmed in the province. Davis praised ‘The X-Files’ for helping shape B.C.’s current media landscape by developing production crews, actors and directors in the Vancouver area. “They really cut their teeth on this show and they’re all working now, and doing great work,” Davis said. His villainous character is thought to have died in the show, but he says that won’t keep him from appearing in its revival. “The Smoking Man will return. This we know,” he said. “The character has actually died, but he’s died three times. “As they say, no one ever dies on ‘The X-Files.’” MORE: www.ctvnews.ca/entertainment/x-files-revival-to-shoot-in-b-c-smoking-man-says-1.2300134

dailygrail.com/TV-and-Movies/2015/7/The-Good-the-Bad-the-Frohike-Lone-Gunmen-Return-The-X-Files REALLLLY GOOD NEWS...YAY ...i'm happy... The Good, the Bad & the Frohike: Lone Gunmen Return to 'The X Files'Posted by red pill junkie 28 Jul 2015 Praise the Paranoids! It really looks as if Chris Carter has been paying attention to the demands of 'The X Files' fanbase, and ensuring the upcoming revival is going to be everything we wished it to be: Our favorite trio of tinfoil hatted musqueteers, John Fitzgerald Byers, Richard "Ringo" Langly and Melvin Frohike, a.k.a. the Lone Gunmen, will be featured in the 6-part miniseries. Details are scarce (as in 'non-existent') at the moment, but news of the reunion was confirmed by Dean Haglund --who played Langly-- on his Twitter account last week: This makes me *very* happy indeed. Not only were the Lone Gunmen some of my all-time favorite characters in the X-Files universe --especially Frohike, for sharing my crush with Scully-- but I remember how I actually cried on the episode "Jump the Shark", in which they self-sacrificed themselves in order to contain an outbreak of a genetically-modified virus; I felt it was the perfect homage for characters which were always depicted as social outcasts, who had sacrificed any sense of a 'normal' life for their self-appointed moral duty of "fighting the Man" through their small newspaper The Lone Gunman --must be the lapsing Catholic in me. Then again, the 'sacrifice' was only in appearance, since in the X-Files Season 10 comic book series published by IDW and produced by Chris Carter himself, it was revealed the trio of subversive Freedom fighters 'faked' their deaths so they could continue with their investigations undisturbed. Will that be shown in the upcoming mini-series? Will Byers be shown as conservatively-dressed as the good ole days? Will Frohike finally go out and tell Scully in her face that "she's hot"? Will Langly remain a "46-year-old virgin"?? Stay tuned! dailygrail.com/TV-and-Movies/2015/7/The-Good-the-Bad-the-Frohike-Lone-Gunmen-Return-The-X-Files MORE: www.cnet.com/news/x-files-revival-reunites-the-lone-gunmen/__________
