Not to be totally outdone..Texas had it's very own quake according to the USGS. Only a 3.8 but sort of out of place. Near Sweetwater Sky. earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/

There's not much seismic activity down here in Texas. A small one every now and then, usually way out west somewhere. I've never even felt a tremor.

We're always having quakes up here in Alaska... small ones are a normal occurrence. We've been having lots of small ones recently... but this isn't unusual... ~shrug~
I didn't know Texas was on a plate... I'm going to have to look that up now... interesting.
I rang up a guy in the liquor store last week, he spoke with an English accent. I asked him where he was from, and he said "England" of course and I asked him why he was here. He said he studies volcanoes and was teaching/researching at the local university. I smiled and said, "Sir, you have come to the right place!"
He grinned at me and said, "Yea, I know!"

Texas has stair-stepped low angle faults from the central area to the Gulf of Mexico. Quake could have happened due to withdrawal of water from aquifer (and collapsing rock strata) or withdrawal of oil (and collapsing substrata). Or hey! Maybe the whole earth is starting to rock and roll.

Is the world having more earthquakes than normal or is this just another case of the news media blowing everything out of proportion in order to start a panic like they usually do? Texas does have a series of fault lines running through it, and there is a big one called the Balcones Fault Line that goes down between Austin and San Antonio. In fact, there is a cave called Wonder Cave that was actually created by an earthquake long, long ago. www.utexas.edu/tmm/sponsored_sites/tss/showcaves/tsswondercave.htmThe area out west where the Marfa Lights occur also has a lot of underground seismic activity but it is usually not felt by the people at the surface. That may possibly be one explanation for why the lights occur. Strange lights have been associated with earthquakes.
