Was the brightness in the direction of Canada? How far away were the fires supposed to be? I'm not sure how ground fires from a long ways off would make the sky brighter unless there were clouds for it to reflect off of. I could be wrong though. I suppose anything is possible.

When I was married I lived near a part of southern Kansas City, Missouri that is called (or used to be) the "marlboro". The whole area below this has been turned topsy-turvey, as it was once an underground facility, mines, a gravel pit, etc. One road, and one road only, goes through this "pitted area"; all other roads are off-limits. I have dreamed about this area many times, and in my dreams it looks like it used to look, with the old roads and everything that I remember. TPTB, used a tragedy for an excuse to make a large part of this land unexcessible, but made a nice memorial to the firefighters that died. www.kansascity.com/news/local/article332830/Twenty-five-years-later-ceremony-honors-six-KC-firefighters-killed-in-explosions.htmlI'll never forget the night this happened. And what was weird for me, is that there were (2) explosions. The first explosion woke me up, and though we had no broken windows, I considered that an earthquake might be happening, because I sensed the ground shaking. I think I got on the floor, and as I was laying there trying to figure out what was going on, the second, much louder explosion happened. I didn't know that it was an explosion; and I peeked through the blinds of the window of our bedroom. The sky looked like it was daytime. I remember it being that way, and I remember talking about it, and no one else saw the sky this way. (but I didn't talk to nearby neighbors).

Thanks for sharing Leo.
I too saw one aurora and it was quite the show. It too happened during the (early) 1980's while I was living in Las Vegas. The sky to the North was orange. I was about 12. At first I thought perhaps something had went wrong at Nellis AFB just to my North. Then, I thought about Nevada Test Site and area 51. Although I studied astronomy, I had never seen one before and didn't at first recognize what I was seeing until the local news there discussed it. Keep your eyes on the skies. More auroras are expected very soon.
It is interesting about the sky lighting up during those hrs. Not sure what to think about this.

Hi Leo. Something else came to mind also. What Skywalker mentioned is possible. Smoke from the California wildfires back in the day would cause beautiful orange sunsets in Las Vegas. At times it would blanket the valley limiting visibility. I noticed here in Missouri how bright out it was at 4 a.m. With June solstice approaching, the days are getting longer. I too am a night owl Leo.
