I’m not sure if technology drives us apart or not. Again, it is debatable. The emotional state of my protagonist was not necessarily caused by technology. It may have been enhanced by it, but I’m pretty sure the feeling of isolation is something that has always existed. The protagonist is definitely using his app to fill a hole. Whether it’s ‘helping’ or not is for the audience to decide. ---------------- This, from the author and maker of the video "strange beasts". (From An interview on Huffington). Critical as always, and more than a little confused. 😆 Me. She "invented" the character of the guy, and she can state that "the feeling of isolation" (something she wants to convey about people who may REALLY enjoy having "artificial pets" or artificial people in their lives) is something that has always existed.... but her character states that he doesn't want to be "just read to", etc. He SAYS he wants "interaction". Actually, he SEEMS to prefer the type of "interaction" where HE's IN CONTROL. HE (and others) may not think that they are "the isolating type". In other words, IF he did WANT suddenly (who knows why) to have someone read him a book, he COULD have the little girl, or actually any character, read him a book. Again, the "isolating factor" is his wanting all his "interactions" to be scripted. By Himself. I'm also thinking that IF the child was real, and they were just playing a game together, he may NEED that reminder to make sure his kid eats, gets plenty of rest, etc.(and the reminders for same to himself). Time is a "human/Earthly" concept, and we all know that different people have different physical needs. Including eating, watching the time, and monitoring blood sugar. I know, I know. Whole other concept for "using technology". 😋 We also already have "eye implants". We have been replacing a natural lens of the eye that grows a cataract. The lens of the eye is replaced by an artificial lens, and yes, people that have worn glasses can get that corrected now by this artificial lens inside the eye. (And yes, an artificial lens that is partially supported by the persons iris, can be seen.) So I did NOT feel a "sinister" instant when I started noticing something in his eye.... I did notice. And then I noticed when both eyes became this way. I guess I'm confused, because even though this video was rather creepy IMO, the author uses the word "sinister". It is mentioned in the interview that she watched a lot of other videos on this subject, and I'm not one of those people that wonder what I've missed? (How could one miss it). For one thing, when I see people talking to themselves, whether they act like they have a companion or not, why would I think that was "sinister"? Are "they" (authors of videos) going to imply NEXT that "no, this Victor guy is a representative of a once violent, mentally ill patient, that is now on a drug" .(That has him "interacting" calmly with his imaginary friends). This author/artist was showing her skill. Very impressive! I can't tell if that was an actual beautiful park that basically no one was in that day (she could have added the two very distant people/ one on a bike; even). 🙂 She did convey that this man was "virtually alone". ~sigh~ m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/15686092

e I'm going to watch it again, Swampy. 😊
I see it more as something "positive". I wish I could find that other post on TEOR about the idea of using virtual reality for certain types of "therapy" (same post where I mentioned that sometimes "dreams" can be therapy. 😉)
Practicing what you would do in certain situations. Like me and my elderly folks practicing crawling out of a window or crawling on the floor to the front door (house fire, for example). If we practiced that every time on an actual floor, we might be too tired for an actual emergency. LOL. It's good to talk about what to do in an emergency, but ....

Swampy! I just watched it again?! (Second time 🙂).
I dare say that ONLY the music (or lack of it) is what makes the video "creepy". It really seems like a "commercial" ( some of our tv commercials SEEM this long! Lol). The "crackling" of the screen... I know now that she (author) was going for a "timing" of that, but hey, to me, it just smoothed out. We have that happen with our "direct tv" now and then. Lol.
Do you think she had to clear out the park for filming?
Or did she just go to where people were (like a small crowd at school recess) and record the sounds?
Seriously! My neighborhood, and area parks are OFTEN this "vacant".
