I had dinner and a lovely leisurely talk with a friend three days ago. We dined on her back porch, full of flowers (and visited by a humming bird that fed off some potted nasturiums on the table where we were).
Afterwards we settled in her living room. She had a small vase filled with sweet peas on the table near me. I had smelled them earlier and commented on how nice they were. But suddenly I felt...off. The smell was evoking a dream and I asked her to move them. I of course told her the dream and she shrugged. (She is neither pro nor anti otherly experiences of mine).
I dreamed this dream before puberty. We were living on a small island off the Texas coast in a town that made its money on tourists that wanted to play in the Gulf of Mexico and/or catch fish. I wandered all over - on foot and on my bike. I was not afraid of anything (realistically wary about rattlesnakes, scorpions, and bullies at school).
In the dream, plants begin to grow and flower. They have a strong smell. Children gather them and take them home for their Moms, where they are put in bowls in the houses of the children. In the deep night they give off stronger and stronger scents. I can smell that smell and then tall thin beings enter the houses and gently carry the children outside while the adults sleep. One carries me outside. I recall nothing further and wake up in my bed (of course?).
This was not a dream that was fear inducing. We/my mother did not grow highly scented flowers. She had geraniums that survived the heat and bloomed all summer around our motel and home. A faint herby smell is all they could manage.
I hadn't thought of this dream until 3 nights ago! And then again until I read the post three minutes ago - about people floating out of their homes in their PJs. (Of course I forgot who wrote it and if I look I'll lose this. It is in recent posts though. He had recently read a post about people floating out of their houses and remembered that he had had a very similar dream.
Wow! I didn't think there was anything else to remember but...
