I had originally asked Skywalker for this section because when considering the 'paranormal' in some respects the spiritual realm might fit in here. It does tend to lie outside of the range of normal experience or scientific explanation. I don't see the 'spiritual' as being religious. Religion is perhaps one way to comfort or educate the spiritual self, but certainly not the only way to enrich the soul. Naturally if you feel the idea of the spiritual is hogwash..you might be more comfortable with other sections but I'd ask you not to ruin it for those who can find some comfort in the ideas expressed We pass through some very uncertain times. Bad weather, volcano's, earthquakes, solar activity and an increase in stressed human behavior because of it. Maybe some would find interest and comfort in accounts of NDE's (near death experiences), accounts of angels and things that, while they may not go bump in the night, still get our attention. I'll be ferreting out accounts by others and hope that if anyone has personal experiences or favorite stories you'll post them here too.

Technically this account is from someone who died and didn't come back as related to his wife. It might drum up visions of seances and the like but I think there are many here who believe in ghosts..this one just had a voice. As to why this soul was given voice, maybe people needed it. "The Masters did make an exception in 1996 when they allowed someone to contact his family in a series of messages that continued for a period of time. They did so because this soul was fairly advanced and had some very valuable instruction on the Path and the conditions of the world today. I suspect they also did this because they were aware that their Messenger, Elizabeth Clare Prophet was soon to succumb to Alzheimers." www.reversespins.com/bestaccountofnde.html

There are plenty of explanations of NDE's and in the scientific world..it is pretty much summed up as the brain doing some fancy footwork during a traumatic episode. That's possible too..but the messages coming back are no less intense or interesting. If they give any person comfort in belief of life continuing...then I think it's a wonderful thing www.nderf.org/Exceptional%20Accounts.htm

I've come close to dying a few times but I can't say I have had any unusual near death experiences so I don't know what to think about them yet. I think it is interesting that so many people who experience them report similar things, (like lights, tunnels, angelic beings, etc...) but are the similarities due to actual experiences that they have or just their imagination from hearing so many Biblical stories about Heaven and angels? Could the perceptions that people have about the afterlife simply be based on all of the stories that they hear, or is there an actual unexplained phenomenon taking place? Is our descriptions of Heaven based on things that people have reported seeing in these NDEs? Anything is possible I suppose.

I've never had a near death experience personally, but I have heard lots of stories about them. I'm on the fence about this one. I do know there is something out there though that defies explanation... while my grandmother was dying for example.
She didn't know that her youngest son had died. We kept it from her because we didn't want her to get upset, but one day when we went to visit her a few days after he passed away, she told us he had come to visit her. Now mind you, for days she had been hallucinating and saying that her sister who had already passed came to visit her, and her mother too. Then she told us her dog who had passed away jumped up on the hospital bed. I was shocked. She had seen her son... a man who had not spoken to her in 20 years and he had come to see her... there is definitely something to all of this spirit realm stuff... I know, I used to do psychic medium work back in high school.

i've never had an NDE, but just before my husband passed (he NEVER believed in an afterlife) he came out of being unconscious several times to tell us things that blew us away.....for 3 days he told us stories of angels, not just his but everyone's angels, his mother visiting (who died 15 or 20 yrs before) and wonderful trips the angels took him on....
he told us stories of angels taking him places we could only dream about...at one point he said he was trying to find his parents and he was told they were in the cherry hill section....WOW....i have since read that heaven was devided into sub-divisions or sections....each with a name....
he had many wonderful adventures during that 3 day period with the angels and i am especially grateful he got to share them all with his family ....my non-believing son became a belliever.....

I've heard in several places now that heaven is divided into 'tiers' or sections and that after this life we progress through those and it leaves me wondering about dimensional theory yet again and how extensive that might be. I have seen and experienced more than enough to convince me of a 'spirit realm', God and angels and I only feel an excitement about knowing more..being there. I also know it will never happen until the time for it is right.

I heard many individuals tell me that their son or husband died and "came by to say goodbye" at that moment. Generally this brings peace to the person who has been left behind. Some are afraid that it means that they are crazy or feel particularly sorry for themselves. I can honestly tell them that I have heard many many stories like this from ordinary folk who aren't "believers" in ghosts or psychic phenomena.

the 2 encounters (with my dad and the guy who called my name)I had is enough to convince me that this is happening along with other peoples accounts. Ive almost died on other occasions though. one in california when I was robbed at gunpoint, $25 taken.another attempted mugging in las vegas,$0 taken thanks to tai quan do,lol and a guy who forwarned me saying "watch out"who I became friends with afterwards. I almost died also when pepcon exploded may 5, 1988 in henderson nv. I was in henderson about 2 miles from ground zero.I thought maybe Reagan had upset Gorbachov when the hydrogen mushroom cloud went up.I almost died of whooping cough pneumonia at the age of 2 and to make matters worse, they gave me penicillen which I was allergic to( I remember). 2 other things happened though, which I cant say was an nde, or paranormal, Ill leave that up to others to decide. one is when I was about 21 years of age I had a car that had a 350 rocket and needless to say I went over 100 mph on a gravel road and decided to take a 90 degree turn at the last second.duhhh, lol(young and dumb). It seemed at that moment that something took over the steering wheel and I didnt wreck. The other is when I was about 12-13 years old I let this kid knock me out by holding me in the air from the back with his arms squeezed around my chest. It worked. During the time I was unconscious I saw a tunnel and at the end what appeared to be an angel but I think because I had lost oxygen to my brain that it was probably a hallucination. I only did that one time and it was too much. Again,,,young and dumb,,,lol

You have definitely walked on the edge my friend and you sure must be a chore to those watching over you ~chuckle~. I'm happy you're still with us in spite of it all. In a place like this where people believe in ghosts, 'bigfeet', UFO's and other illusive entities, the idea of an after life and a spiritual 'dimension' shouldn't be that hard of a stretch Actually...of all of the paranormal..the spiritual is the only one that comes with a manual

My Mothers Mother had a heart attack and was in the local hospital here where I live. A nurse entered her room. Right away she knew something was wrong. She looked for a heatbeat or pause. there was none. Back in those days they did not have heart monitors to watch a patience
She went to get a physician .. he check her and pronounced her dead.. He covered her head and they left the room. My Mothers sister another daughter to the deceased had came to the hospital right afterwards and entered the Mother room. She could see that her Mother had died. . she removed the cover and hug her saying Mother come back over and over again. My Grandmother opened her eyes. She lived.
My Grandmother said she was on a beautiful river laying down in a boat, it was flowing along with the river. Up ahead was the brightest light you could ever imagine. She had almost reached the light and could hear my Anuts voice calling her. she did nothing the boat turned itself around and headed back up stream away from the light. She said her daughters voice got louder and louder till she seemed to be right next to her. She opened her eyes and looked into my Aunts face.
She died 6 months later of another heart attack.. I was born down the hall from her room three days before she died, She wanted to see me but the hospital had rules. So I never knew her. She is the one who hid behind her grandmothers apron as she shot her favorite riding horse so the yankee soldiers could not take her horse. . I put this in for sky.
She said she never feel such love and inter peace while flowing in the boat toward the light.

That is so cool, Shami. It's an amazing story too. Thanks for sharing it with us. I still think the hospital was mean for not letting your grandmother see you before she died, but I'm sure she will get to see you some day.

Yes!! She knew of me anyway, I would recognized her as I have pictures of her. A giant bubbled photo of her is hanging right next to my computer. It was taken around the time she was sixteen.
She did not say if she heard anything. Like music or angels . I will ask my older brothers and sisters they may know more than I do about her experience.

Lois...thank you for sharing such a beautiful story. I think we all can use some positive inspiration from time to time and that sure was Maybe she had a bit of a trial run to show her there was no reason to be afraid and to share that with her family. We're lucky to have such a 'family' group here I think.

A neurosurgeon shares his near-death experience.Uploaded by howlifebegan on Aug 18, 2011 Bacterial meningitis, coma, earth worm eye view of the world, then the warm loving light... Featuring also Dr. Bruce Greyson, a psychiatrist and longtime NDE researcher. A must watch video for skeptics, specially people who seek scientific evidence. LEONARD NIMOY NARRATESAbove is a clip from the documentary series Through the Wormhole. This episode dealt with the near-death experience of Dr. Eben Alexander. He had one of the most unique near-death experiences I’ve ever heard about. He had a multiple NDE while he was in a coma. And he was able to recall it with remarkable detail. Dr. Alexander is a neurosurgeon. It is rare for a medical professional to have an NDE and he is in a unique position to understand what he went through. Dr. Alexander gave an interview on Skeptiko. You can listen to the podcast or read the transcript here: Neurosurgeon Dr. Eben Alexander’s Near-Death Experience Defies Medical Model of Consciousness The doctor is a very smart and impressive individual. We have two choices…either he was deluded, or his experience was as he related. I assume his experience was exactly what he said it was…a genuine NDE. During this excellent Skeptiko interview, Dr. Alexander said he had a transcendent experience where he attained incredible knowledge but was unable to bring it back. It seemed transcendence is beyond human understanding. However, I feel a great deal of transcendent information was brought back from the other side anyway. Dr. Alexander is writing a book on his experience, and I look forward to reading it in great detail. We can learn secrets from these mystical experiences. For now, I will examine a few points from his Skeptiko interview: GUARDIAN ANGELS Dr. Alexander went into an NDE several times during his coma, and each time he encountered what he described as a guardian angel. Again, assuming this is real, and then we all have a guardian angel, spirit guide or possibly a “higher self”. These are ancient beliefs and it appears there is merit in the concept of spiritual guides. That is a comforting thought. However, if we all have a holy spiritual companion, would we want to disappoint them? I’d want to make my spiritual companion proud of me! CONTINUE READING: t.co/jVpFksQa
