This may better fit into the poltergeist activity thread. But I've got to say, I was personally in the middle of it and I have no idea who or what was the agent of this event was. And I do think it was from the edge...
Yesterday, About 2pm. I was at my computer and I heard a loud noise. It sounded like it was IN THE HOUSE. Either in my bathroom - across the hall, maybe downstairs UNDER my bathroom, or on the steps outside the bathroom window. I froze.
That is what I do when I encounter something frightening. I sat. I heard ANOTHER SOUND POSSIBLY AS LOUD AS THE FIRST. OK. Sitting isn't working! I went into my bathroom and said Hello! Who is here! I went to the back door to our second story little porch - the door was locked and still had the bar in it. (GOOD!!!)
The front door however I had left open (wide open no screen) and I thought - if someone was downstairs maybe they'd just go out the front door. And leave me alone. So I didn't linger at the front door. I DID NOT go downstairs. I was actually quite frightened and didn't want to confront anyone down there if I didn't have to. I THOUGHT ABOUT RUNNING OUT THE FRONT DOOR. But there were no further noises. I sat back down and did nothing further.
When husband Terry came home - I told him about it. Surprisingly (to me) he took it seriously. He looked on the porch for signs of possibly an animal being up there - BBQ disturbed etc. Nothing. He looked downstairs - nothing looked knocked about. He sat down and shrugged. We had dinner and watched some TV. Then I heard him calling me urgently to come to our on-suite bathroom. He pointed to the toilet bowl. There was a rock in the bottom of the toilet bowl. It had been up on the window sill. He puts stuff up there. This rock was the size of a small potato. It was flattened on the bottom. It had to weigh 2 -4 oz. It had been on the window ledge and was now two feet horizontally away, in the toilet bowl. There also was a small fragile ceramic vase sitting upside down in the exact place it had been sitting rightside up earlier.(we didn't notice that last night - too busy looking at the rock that flew through the air and landed in the toilet. I went in and mopped in there today and noticed that everything else was in place - including far lighter objects. As I recall the window was slightly open, there was no wind. Had there been wind, the front door would have slammed shut. The fir trees outside where I sit and type would have been waving around. I had just come in from running errands. There was a slight amount of breeze. Not wind.
We laid in bed and debriefed this event while another small noise happened in the kitchen. As I have said before, there are often noises AFTER we go to bed. Small. We know we don't have rats or mice. They just are. But this was bigger. More attention grabbing. We were glad that the rock hadn't gotten down past our seeing it - our plumbing would certainly have been stopped up. But there were several noises that afternoon. I wonder if something else got "tossed" in there and did go down. I'll fix it he said gloomily. He meant the plumbing, not the phenomenon. We are reading the Ananzi Boys by Neil Gaiman and everytime I read his stuff I feel drawn into slightly different realities close but not the same as this one. In his stories, there's usually a deadly boring normal person who slowly realizes that he's not in Kansas anymore. That's the way I feel right now. The rock flying 2 feet over to land neatly in the toilet bowl. A small vase (about 6 inches tall) now upside down exactly where it was before. When I mopped behind the toilet area I also found one piece of broken glass. To my knowledge we never broke a glass in there. We walk in barefoot during the night to pee. There would have been an adequate clean up had such a thing happened. And I have mopped and swept in the area on a semi-frequent basis. I donno. I could have let that one go if that's all that had happened (I'll ask Terry tonight if he broke a glass in there recently and didn't mention it).
Another conclusion we came to? Our ghost is somewhat of a toddler. That's what toddlers do - throw things in the toilet (giggle) turn things upside down. However, it then has to be a TALL toddler. Because the window sill where the stuff is is about shoulder level. And yes, there's a screen on the window - if someone was trying to climb in, there are far easier places to do so (basement windows).
So. That's my little report. I am semi-creeped out. It seemed more mischievous than dangerous. But we'll see if our plumbing keeps working.
