www.ufodigest.com/article/anniversary-captain-mantell%E2%80%99s-fatal-ufo-pursuitJanuary 09, 2013 This the anniversary of Captain Mantell’s fatal UFO pursuit By Doc Vega At 1:30 PM January 7, 1948 a strange incident occurred that has never been explained. That incident cost a 25 year old Air National Guard captain his life. This very competent pilot had seen action in World War II and was a fighter “Ace” (five or more enemy kills). Yet, nothing could have prepared the brave young air warrior for what he was about to encounter. Early hints of that which was to come Prior to 1948 there had only been hints at possible UFO aggression. The disappearance of 5 TBM Avengers off the coast of Florida was one unexplained loss of US pilots and their aircraft. The numerous sightings of “Foo” fighters that had terrorized several bomber crews over Europe and the Pacific theater was another indirect yet non-aggressive yard stick of unidentified aerial phenomenon where, if there had been fatalities, they had not been observed or reported. At the very least it seemed that a global surveillance of man’s hostilities and defensive capabilities was being conducted by an, as yet, unknown entity. Even Captain Edward J. Ruppelt, Director of Project Blue Book, covered the Mantell aerial crash and commented that a thorough check of weather balloon launches all over the possible regions that could have produced a sighting had been undertaken. Ruppelt’s opinion was that Captain Mantell had misidentified a weather balloon at a higher altitude than his and had lost his life in pursuit of it. However, Ruppelt was unable to find a recorded balloon launch event in the general region. As Godman Army Airfield observed a large glowing sphere that had been hovering within their line of sight, state troopers, and other trained observers had corroborated the existence of an unknown aerial object within their air traffic control jurisdiction. Later that day UFO’s displaying fantastic flight speed and capability in neighboring Madisonville were reported at approximately 7:00 pm. So as Captain Mantell’s flight of 4 F-51 Mustangs flew over the area on their way to Standiford Air Base in Kentucky from Marietta Army Air Base. Control tower operator, Quinton Blackwell radioed the flight leader, Captain Mantell, for assistance in identifying the unknown object. Mantell’s aircraft was not fitted with a pressurized cockpit or high altitude oxygen mask. One of his wingmen did have an oxygen mask but was low on supply. When Mantell acknowledged the Godman Tower request to intercept the unknown aerial object, one flyer dropped out of the formation low on fuel, and to retrieve an oxygen mask while the captain was followed by his wingmen lieutenants Clemments and Hammond to an altitude of 20,000 feet. Only Clemments had an oxygen mask. Mantell pointed out the object to his trailing lieutenants as being at 12’oclock. this is one of the saddest encounters i've ever heard of...
eyewitness reports is evidence... and i would never discount it...
even our legal system relies heavily on eyewitness accounts

I don't understand the problem: As I said...I absolutely believe that he died in pursuit of a UFO. He spotted one and investigated and from that point on...any number of things could have happened. His plane, not being able to take the stress or G's, could have malfunctioned..ailerons could have broken, the rudder..the motor itself..or he passed out from oxygen deprivation because his plane was not equipped to climb so high and he plunged to the ground. Maybe the UFO did consider him some threat and fired on him..all of that I can readily believe but not a brain outside of the body without the means to get there. From a partial decapitation..yes..that I can surely believe. Of course eye witnesses are acceptable...but as they have proved in murder trials..they can be wrong also or miss details and after a horrendous crash under such circumstances rumors would be flying around like popcorn. I absolutely believe he saw a UFO...pursued it and died as a result of that encounter..either from a plane malfunction or from being shot down. The government isn't likely to ever admit a plane was shot down by unfriendly UFO's..because of likely panic. I'm sure...there have been others lost because of unidentified craft. You have to remember though..a crash of a plane...does not leave victims in tact, normally. Would they want to have taken pictures of that kind of carnage? The man I mentioned who died in his plane a couple of months ago..planted into the ground with enough force to bury the motor and his altitude was not all that high. The condition of his body....was horrific and I know measures were taken to keep that from his wife. That is all I'm trying to point out..not that it didn't happen.

Hi Jo . There is a possibility that he was taken and a clone was made ( this is my thinking ) and put in his place . There was no blood in the cockpit . Maybe that they didn't have enough time to put his cloned brain in his skull. If they dug up his body I would bet that it isn't there in the grave . There is to many factors . The Gov. lie-ing , the story about that he was flying a jet chasing the UFO to people painted on a balloon as a secret government project . I probably make a trip to where the crash site this year if every thing goes right and stay over night for a ghost hunt at the Octagon hall near by .

Ron you took words out of my mouth but I never wanted to say it. Since I was around 35 years old I thought maybe they clone us and take memories from our brain and put it all in the cloned image. ;D ;D why they would do this sound really wild. I sent you that video you wanted on the phone yesterday . figured it would be easier for me to do this than have you search for it. Maybe some time when I have tons of it on my hands I will go and maybe just find the other tapes of Mantell from years back. My husband says why don't you throw away all those old VHS. NEVER..some day I plan on having the equipment to transfer it to DVD. I'm so glad I did as most witnesses were still living when I taped anything and everything from TV . If it had a five second mention of ufo I had my tape rolling. ;D ;D Some you can find today on the net but most of it I have never found. If I found it I would of posted all of it on these forums I have been on. When those witnesses died off I have watched so many stories change down through the years . And I cannot throw my tape at them like I want to so badly. I get angry at TV today.. and reports on line plus news articles.

Thank You Lois for helping me with that video. I gave it to my friend and he watched it and then he told me that he has it . ( bummer ) I have some questions that is going around in my mind . His plane was a P51 . The P stands for pursuit . Later the air force added a F to it which stands for fighter . This is what Cpt Mantell was flying . Question . Did he fire at the UFO ? If he did . Then the Aliens probably retaliated at him and took him aboard the craft and put a clone in his place . Question , What did they do with the plane ? Did they scrap it or took it to a secure place . Nobody knows . Question , The Mantell family did not receive a Autopsy report from the Coroner. why ? Just a death cirtificate Something just came to mind . Did the Army or Air Force go over the area with a gieger counter ? There might be some radition traces there . We will find out this spring . The site of the crash is in Franklin Ky. Just off of I65 . near the Tenn/ky boarder

An investigator . forgot his name... took the family there and he ran test for radiation. Gee I cannot remember what he said I only remember his digging and bringing up small pieces of the plane. I'm not sure what part of my home has that taped stored ;D I Have them in closets.. draws .. Boxes .. on shelves . you name it. ;D But will look for it. I have tried on the internet for years without any luck to find some of those sighting programs . as I have them all but to show post here when a thread pops up about a certain case. My tapes with Roswell witnesses live on sightings are good ones.

Ron I found something.. The investigator digging up parts of the plane. I tried to post my camera at the tv as the vhs played but it makes black lines across the screen. It does not do this when I point it at my monitor screen. Has to be lighting settings in my camera. I cannot put a copy of a TV show on u tube as I don't have rights to the sightings programs.. But I will download it on facebook. It may take awhile as I should of broken it up in parts but I did not. The tape is so long facebook will take forever. If you are up another hour check my FB Wall. They did find some radiation. but not a lot. Tim White the host of sightings said . We notified Washington that we had parts to the plane. He said they would run a update. So it may be on another tape I made..

Ron I found something.. The investigator digging up parts of the plane. There you go ;D. The conversations here on this thread interest me. I agree with Jo quite a bit, as that to me is how we should be looking at this. And a lot of people most likely do, and then dismiss any other information that comes of it- just shaking their heads about any mysteries about the debris. But why would anyone want us to question the debris? ;D

You might try finding an old NTSC to S-Video converter, they used to sell new for around $75 in the Mom & Pop Oriental PC shops around town. That way you could take the NTSC signal straight out of the VCR and play it into various gadgets, such as DVRs, PCs, etc. Maybe Cliff can help out with some info too?

Plutronus, You mean all camera's do not do this? Hummm!! Thank you. I taped some more tonight after fooling around with the light settings. It hardly does it at all now. This camera has so many settings it takes and hour to go through them all. I do know I changed the light frequency to 60 Hz from 50. even when I had no idea what it was for. ;D Would all those settings be just to make it appear a great camera? I mean one for waterfall. Then one for ocean. splash water flow water.. beach.. sunrise .. sun set..candlelight. fireworks.. Program AE Now I have not idea what that is. ;D ;D One for baby smiling. One for a woman smiling. I think it is crazy. One for green grass. One for animals.. size of VGA?. What is LCD bright +5 mean? I could go on all night. Fireworks display did help last summer . No fuzzy lights it was so clear. Not like the year before. I do not have any one close to me here who understands cameras . My daughter gave it to me a couple of years ago. I mostly watch the skies with it. . There is daytime and night time settings and I do put it on day or night.. One thing I do not like about this cheap camera is .. You cannot zoom in and out. You set the zoom before you tape and if you don't like it your stuck with it. I was filming three orange orbs in a triangular shape and I could not zoom in farther. So I turned the camera off and put the zoom higher. When I looked back at the night sky it was gone. Lois

Hi,
>When I looked back at the night sky it was gone.
Yep, they definitely seem to know what we are doing...and sometimes its a bummer too.
The black banding is a commonly known artifact caused by the timing between the camera and the display image being video-recorded not being synchronized. If the refresh scans are not synchronized, banding will occur every time and it 'walks', typically either up or down the recorded image on playback. The artifact is known as 'zero-beating', because the refresh rates are very close in frequency to each other, but they both don't begin at the same moment, and because their clocks drift a little, the horizontal hold walks. I don't understand why adjusting 'light-levels' would affect this, unless, it is masked techno-speak by the camera manufacturer to rename something less user friendly such as, 'timing-adjustment'? A few of the more advanced cameras enable the user to adjust the Horizontal SYNC rate start time, enabling the internal sync pulse generator to be moved back & forth a little in the timing cycle period, this will definitely affect the banding, and if the camera's 'heart-beat' clock is reasonably stable, could eliminate banding, without the need to physically move the SYNC pulse to the TV set to synchronize the two gadgets. But its problematic as the TV set can also drift. Professional systems always provide a SYNC pulse interconnect.
In any case, getting a sync box will fix it. Or a new digital camcorder with DVI or S-Video, to provide the SYNC, and a spiffy new camera will also fix the zoom problem, (and winning the lottery might be help a bit too )

Did the Army or Air Force go over the area with a gieger counter ? There might be some radition traces there . We will find out this spring . The site of the crash is in Franklin Ky. Just off of I65 . near the Tenn/ky boarder Do you actually know where the crash site is? I've been to where the historical marker is but it is not at the actual crash site. They put the marker near the highway so it would be more convenient for people to see. I'm sure the real crash site would be on private property somewhere.

www.ufodigest.com/article/anniversary-captain-mantell%E2%80%99s-ufo-chase-part-iiJanuary 16, 2013 This the anniversary of Captain Mantell’s UFO chase Part II By Doc Vega More often than not when we have been assured by supposed authoritative evidence, things are not always what they seem to be. Sometimes the truth untangles itself from the layers of forgotten lies and fabricated cover stories and suddenly emerges from the mist of time to illuminate the persistent mysteries that dull our senses and better judgment. You would think that an incident that happened as long ago as 1948 would have just faded into the noise of media denial and the fog of human short term memory, but instead, an astonishing story surfaced like the rusty wreck of the Titanic to shed more light on a tragedy that has tantalized the minds of many since the UFO phenomenon descended upon us decades ago. When digging up the dead, some people say, it’s better just to leave the bones where they’re buried. Let sleeping dogs lie, but the anniversary of the Captain Mantell incident beckons us to ask a little more of ourselves and find out if there really is more to this enduring mystery than we have been led to believe. Because of the controversial subject matter, I say its worth the effort. Godman Army Airfield conducts the first investigationI came upon the testimony of one UFO researcher who reports being contacted by a former intelligence officer after he had given a public presentation on UFO’s and the Mantell Incident. He received a phone call from a retired military officer who claimed to have been an aircraft crash inspector in 1948. The man claimed that he had not been part of the initial team that had responded within a short time of the reported crash at 3:50 that afternoon, but he had been awakened from bed in his quarters during early morning hours by an officer of the Godman Army Airfield crash investigation team. James F. Duesler was serving at Godman Army Airfield on that fateful day. In fact, he had heard the first transmissions from the control tower about the sighting of an object in the immediate area and the request for assistance for Air National Guard Captain Mantell. He was aware that a huge metallic object had been observed for an hour by the tower and had slowly flown at the edge of the field before heading south. Duesler says that at the time it was the end of a very long shift he had pulled and had left the tower to get some much needed rest not knowing what the end result of the sighting or Captain Mantell’s fate had been. So, here he was at an ungodly early morning hour, being swiftly ushered to a crash site several miles out into the wooded farmlands of Kentucky to inspect a fatal crash site. A crash site that didn't make senseCaptain Duesler was astonished at the scene of the crash that simply did not fit in with the normal characteristics of a high speed air accident where a ground collision was concerned. The crash site simply was not consistent with what had reportedly happened. In a heavily wooded area where an airplane was rapidly descending with a pilot who was either unconscious or out of control the F-51 should have cut down several trees, been impaled by the truck of a tree, or been extremely thoroughly scratched up from breaking off branches or scraping through them as the aircraft crashed into the area. Instead, a fighter plane whose heavy engine would have forced it straight down in a spiraling death dive or at a very steep angle of high speed descent, appeared to have minimal damage. Other than the wing and tail being separated nearby from the fuselage, the propellers were still intact and not even scratched, by observing the wreckage, investigators got the impression that the F-51 had belly flopped. This would have been impossible had Captain Mantell actually have been unconscious or had lost control at high speed! Captain Mantell’s body was indeed another mystery all together to behold. There was no blood in the cockpit even though the aircraft would have to have slammed into the ground from 30,000 feet at nearly 400 miles per hour. Yet, according to Captain Duesler, there wasn’t a scratch on Mantell though his bones internally had been pulverized virtually to dust. The aviator’s dead body was without the rigidness of rigor mortis or a human body supported internally by a skeleton. The remains were almost like an invertebrate animal taken out of the water unable to remain in their original form like an octopus out of water. It was highly inconsistent with the type of injuries observed on corpses after high speed crashes. Further corroboration of an alleged military cover-up over the tragedy was the testimony of Richard T. Miller, who was at the Scott Air Base in Belle Ville, Illinois, and was listening to the control tower conversation with Captain Mantell as he closed in on the metallic ship of terrific size. Miller swears that Mantell said, “ My God, I see people in this thing!” CONTINUE READING: www.ufodigest.com/article/anniversary-captain-mantell%E2%80%99s-ufo-chase-part-ii If you missed part I of this series click here: www.ufodigest.com/article/anniversary-captain-mantell%E2%80%99s-fatal-ufo-pursuit

Well...that report turns yet another leaf over. It makes it sound like perhaps the plane was subjected to some kind of severe ocillation to do that to the pilots body but if that were the case, the plane would have been shaken to bits also..so again..no answer. It almost sounds as though the plane were 'put' into place (maybe by some type of beam) that the body couldn't withstand. Does sort of let out the 'cloning' theory as there is no mention of the brain sitting in plain site. That one was difficult for me at any rate..cloning isn't instantaneous...I don't care how advanced you may be...the process takes time. It sounds too like the objective was not to 'hurt' the pilot..just to get him to stop chasing them or maybe keep them away from their ship because of some danger. I'm guessing ...if they wanted him destroyed..the plane would have been obliterated. We can't do any more than guess at these things because we are just missing too many components to make any kind of a real qualified contribution. IMO

I always believe Miler the radio man in Belleville Illinois at Scott field. I read a long article years and years ago in which Miller told his story. Some important military men came and took every thing in the office at the base. He said there was no papers left at the base. This was the morning after Miller told his story. He was the first person I know to state . Mantell said to the tower . OMG there are people in this thing. .I believe him and knew then it was no balloon.

If that is an accurate description of the body it is not totally unrealistic. I've heard a lot of stories of mountain climbers who fell off of mountains and totally obliterated the insides of their bodies while not even bruising the exterior. It has something to do with the speed that it is traveling. Kind of like the straws that get plowed through trees during tornados.

Like everything else about UFO's there are just TOO many tales and they get carried into infinite strangeness..this is yet another report from Captainmantell.com and it reads less like science fiction and more like a plane crash.. The aircraft broke apart before hitting the ground. This is a normal result of an aircraft operating well outside its design parameters, but it is easy to see how witnesses may have misinterpreted the breakup |
www.captainmantell.com/749/Let it be said too...that stress design engineers have poured over the crash of that plane..and it's not uncommon for them to break apart before hitting the ground. Yet another account en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantell_UFO_IncidentWhat this tells me..is that we can look and print the strange and the bizarre accounts that are possibly twisting what facts there are...or we can print both...the bizarre and the more mundane although much less exciting accounts. Isn't it enough that this man died in persuit of an un-identified craft and that we should honor him for that...not villanize possible occupants of that craft or turn potential visitors into murderers because it's more sensational. He chased a UFO..his craft was not structurally designed for the task. To me..that is certainly amazing enough.

It sounds too like the objective was not to 'hurt' the pilot... . Along this line of thought, we need to consider that if some of these "aliens" are from another dimension, then the time factor of involving cloning doesn't matter. What appears instantaneous to us. . . . So, all the things they are capable of. Why didn't they just do their thing and disappear? Shoot, Mantell could have died up there from a heart attack, and they couldn't stop his death. They could just make it look different. "they" aren't perfect and sometimes they just let their mistakes happen .

Or..his plane just suffered too much structural damage..and spiraled in. We're not geared for the 'simple' explaination anymore..and sometimes..the simple explaination is the real one. I read in these accountings the official reports by those who were on scene, who found his body..the rest is just rumor or speculation until there is something that backs that up. If there is..I'd love to see it, and I'll shut up. If you set the reports in front of an aeronautical engineer..he's going to tell you that the older planes just were not built to handle the climb he put his plane through. A modern jet would have a considerably better chance of surviving the experience. My observation is..that the reporting here is pretty one sided..in favor of the aliens being the bad guys...and the only thing we're certain of..is that the craft he chased wasn't idenfifiable to him..not necessarily driven by aliens. Now..if we really want to speculate..how about it being a craft driven by Mantell's great great great grandson who came back in time to kill his great great great grandfather because if he had not, some horrible timeline thing would have happened and his brother would have been born who was going to kill him the day he turned 21. Is one any more likely to be proved than the other? If you want to play with time.....'shrug'
